When I don’t feel great, I do not feel like singing. Jesus is different, he doesn’t allow feelings to drive him. He knew of his death on the cross and despite that he sang, just like Jews do on Passover even today, the worship Psalms 115-118 with his disciples and praised his Father in Heaven. He knew that his Father was always by his side with help and comfort. Later, they went to the Mount of Olives where everyone withdrew for personal prayer. He prayed so intensively that he sweated blood. He was scared of the struggles of death on the cross. However, what weighed him down even more was the load of the sins that he had to carry to pay for it with his life. In the moment of separation from this Father, the one without sin took away the power of death forever.
The religious leaders overthrew Jesus as an important element in building the Kingdom of God.
For God, he is the most important element. Those who build on this spiritual foundation have Jesus as a living cornerstone and is comforted in the middle of mortal fear. He knows that death is not the end!

Psalm 118,22
It may sound totally off, but it is God’s fact. Back then, the religious elite thought they would do God a favor by nailing Jesus to the cross. Today, we also have an “elite” who thinks that they have the right to systematically persecute believers in Christ. Since Jesus is the foundation that never shakes, we are comforted in the midst of fear.

Wenn ich mich nicht so gut fühle, habe ich keine Lust zum Singen. Ganz anders bei Jesus, er liess sich nicht von seinen Gefühlen steuern. Er wusste um seinen Tod am Kreuz, trotzdem sang er am Abend vorher mit seinen Jüngern die Anbetungs-Psalmen 115-118 und lobte seinen Vater im Himmel, so wie es Juden am Passahfest bis heute tun. Er wusste, dass ihm sein Vater immer helfend und tröstend zur Seite war. – Später gingen sie zum Ölberg, wo er sich alleine zum persönlichen Gebet zurückzog. Er betete so intensiv, dass er Blut schwitzte. Er hatte Angst vor dem Todeskampf am Kreuz. Was ihn jedoch noch mehr drückte, war die schwere Sündenlast die er tragen musste und für die er mit seinem Leben bezahlte. Der Sündlose entriss in diesem Moment der Trennung von seinem Vater dem Tod die Macht für immer.
Die religiösen Führer verwarfen Jesus als wichtiges Element im Bau von Gottes Reich.Für Gott ist er das wichtigste Element. Wer auf diesem geistlichen Fundament baut, hat Jesus als lebendigen Eckstein und ist mitten in der Todesangst getröstet. Er weiss, der Tod ist nicht das Letzte!

Was sich völlig abgehoben anhört, ist göttliche Tatsache. Damals glaubte die religiöse Elite, dass sie Gott einen Gefallen tut, wenn sie Jesus ans Kreuz schlägt. – Auch heute glaubt sich eine «Elite» im Recht, Christus-Gläubige systematisch zu verfolgen. Weil Jesus das Fundament ist, das nie wankt, sind wir mitten in der Angst getröstet.
Wie denken Sie darüber, mitten in der Angst Gott zu loben?
Jews celebrate Passover to remember being freed from slavery in Egypt. They used to slaughter a lamb and eat it with bitter herbs. Jesus knew that he was the “Lamb” that would carry the sin of the world (John 1:29). He wanted that his friends would understand that and ate this meal before his sufferings with them. With his Son, God started a new era. Unfortunately, his disciples did not understand. They still believed in the liberator from the Romans and fought therefore over who would be the most important among them and who would have which role.
After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
John 13:5
Jesus simply started to wash and dry their feet. He demonstrated without many words his servant love. He came to free our hearts from sin. That Judas would betray last him and Peter deny him made him sad since Jesus suffers when we fail.
Conclusion: Jesus surprises all the time and faces life in the most difficult circumstances. During the last meal, he made clear to his disciples “I give my life for the forgiveness of your sins and pay with my blood so you have eternal life.” What thoughts and feelings did Jesus have when he said that?

Das sollten auch seine Freunde verstehen und deshalb wollte er vor seinem Leiden dieses Mahl gemeinsam mit ihnen feiern. Gott leitete mit seinem Sohn ein neues Zeitalter ein. Leider kapierten seine Jünger das nicht. Sie glaubten noch immer an den Erlöser von den Römern und stritten deshalb darüber, wer der Wichtigste unter ihnen sei und wer dann welche Stellung haben werde.
Jesus goss Wasser in eine Schüssel und begann, seinen Jüngern die Füsse zu waschen und mit dem Tuch abzutrocknen.

Jesus begann ganz einfach ihnen die Füsse zu waschen und zu trocknen. Er demonstrierte ohne viele Worte seine dienende Liebe. Er kam, um unsere Herzen von der Sünde zu befreien. Dass er von Judas verraten und von Petrus verleugnet würde, machte ihn sehr traurig. Jesus leidet, wenn wir versagen.
Fazit: Jesus überraschte ständig und stellte sich dem Leben in den schwierigsten Umständen. Er machte beim letzten Mahl seinen Jüngern deutlich: «Ich gebe mein Leben zur Vergebung eurer Schuld und bezahle mit meinem Blut, dass ihr ewiges Leben bekommt.» Welche Gedanken und Gefühle hatte Jesus wohl bei diesen Worten?
Jesus war nicht ein Weltverbesserer, sondern Gottes Sohn mit glaubwürdiger Autorität. Eine besondere Szene ereignete sich, als er nach dem Einzug in Jerusalem die Geldwechsler und Tierverkäufer aus dem Vorplatz des Tempels Gottes herauswarf. «Macht den Tempel nicht zum Kaufhaus und zur Räuberhöhle! Mein Haus soll ein Bethaus für alle Völker sein.» So intensiv war die Liebe und der Respekt zum Haus seines Vaters. – Doch die Religiösen fragten verärgert, mit welchem Recht er so etwas tue.
In Psalm 69,10 lesen wir: «Der Eifer um dein Haus hat mich verzehrt». Jesus hatte nichts gegen die Geldwechsler und Tierhändler. Was ihm sauer aufstiess, waren die dubiosen Geschäfte, die dort gemacht wurden. Der Tempel war ein heiliger Ort, wo Schuld vergeben wurde durch das vergossene Blut eines reinen Tieres. Jesus ärgerte, dass an diesem Ort mit überhöhten Preisen Geld verdient wurde. Schliesslich waren die Leute oft lange gereist und darauf angewiesen, ein Tier vor Ort zu kaufen.
Die Religiösen flippten komplett aus. Sie waren dafür verantwortlich, dass im Tempel keine dubiosen Geschäfte gemacht werden. Jesus handelte so, weil es seinem Vater ein Dorn im Auge war. Die Geistlichen waren in ihrer Ehre gekränkt und so lehnten sie den Sohn Gottes komplett ab. Das Volk hingegen hoffte auf einen mächtigen, selbstbewussten Führer, der sie von den Römern hätte befreien können.

Jesus wasn’t a world improver but the Son of God with trustworthy authority. After his entrance to Jerusalem, a very special situation occurred when he threw the money changers and animal traders out of the temple area. “Don’t make the temple into a shop or a robber cave! My house is a house of prayer for all people.” This is how intensive his love and respect for his father’s house was. However, the religious asked with which authority he did such a thing.
In Psalm 69:9 we read: “for zeal for your house consumes me”. Jesus didn’t have anything against the money changers and animal traders. What he didn’t like was the dubious business that occurred. The temple was a holy place where sin was forgiven through blood shed by a clean animal. Jesus was upset about the idea that folks made money by overpricing their goods. At the end, many had travelled long and didn’t have another option than buying an animal right there.
The religious were upset. They were responsible to ensure that business was done correctly. Jesus acted the way he did because it was a thorn in his Father’s side. The religious leaders were offended and therefore they rejected the Son of God completely. The people, however, hoped for a powerful, self-confident leader who could free them from the Romans.
