There was a man, a woman and a child. Nothing special in this barn and yet, everything was very special. There was joy in the air that went beyond the barn. Now they could feel the child. They have never felt anything like it in their hearts. They burst from joy even though everything was the way they had imagined. But the joy remained in their hearts. It didn’t go away. It was so massive that they had to tell everyone in the village what had happened.
What do you say about this fantastic event?
Once again, I want to be inspired by this Christmas joy and spread the word like the shepherds did. This way the peace that goes beyond all thinking, turns into love and lights up our lives so our joy is complete. Yes, that is Christmas as the savior of the world has truly come to reconcile us with God.
When did you take the step to reconcile with God?
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
It was drawing and the shepherds couldn’t wait to see what the angels were telling them. Some ran and wanted to be the first. All of them were almost over-motivated and were thinking over again – could it be? With a child born in a barn, they did not have any issues to relate. They were hurrying to the barn.
They are also a bit taken aback by the exciting story which is a true one!
How do you allow joy to lit you up?
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
Rather bored they sat around the fire and stared into the dark. Every so often a sheep was bleating and that was it. But, what was that… Angels sang and talked about the savior that was born. Supposedly he is in a barn and they should go there and have a look! Now the mood shifted among the shepherds. They were awake and their adrenalin level was high. Fantastic such news in the middle of the night! Even the depressed shepherds felt warmth inside!
What are you excited about when it comes to Christmas?
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
The religious leaders were upset. Jesus, born in a barn, claims as an adult and teacher to be the light of the world. If the educated elite would have studied their scriptures carefully they would have found that the father, son and holy spirit were present / even during the creation of the world. Isaiah prophesied the light hundreds of years prior. This light of the world has publicly made the blind see.
It is a fact that Jesus is no less than the light of the world. No one besides him has done miracles like this! He even woke the dead and rose three days after his own death. He showed that he conquered death! That was the ultimate proof: I am truly the light of the world!
Jesus says in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
We all have encountered blind people. He orientates himself with a stick or he has a trained dog on his side. With those aides, blind people can manage their lives a little better.
Jesus gave sight to many and showed emphatically that he is the light of the world. He didn’t just say it, but he also proved it. Never before those born blind turned seeing but with Jesus’ help.
Jesus says in John 8,12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
The light of the world is giving us orientation and a purpose of life in the midst of darkness.
Getting some bread and cheese just before the shop closes and suddenly the light goes out. The power is gone. The clients are irritated, coolers and tills don’t work. So silly. No light, no purchases, no orientation. Some frantically move around their lit cell phones, but that doesn’t help either.
The bible calls people who are without a relationship with God as people who walk in darkness. The Bible calls Jesus the light of the world. Without him, the essence of life remains hidden in the dark. Even though many want to live without their creator, they live past the most important thing in life. Without Jesus, our spirit remains without light and is therefore dead.
Isaiah says in chapter 9 verse 2 prophetically: The people who walk in darkness see a great light, and on those who dwell in the land of darkness a light shines brightly.
What does it mean to you, the light that shines in the dark?
